The Cuerpo Nacional de Policía (National Police), commonly abbreviated CNP, is a Spanish civilian police force, subordinate to the Ministry of the Interior.
It was created in 1978 during the Spanish democratic transition to replace the Cuerpo de Policía Armada y de Tráfico of Frankish Spain. The current structure and name comes directly from the Spanish Constitution.
