150th anniversary of the death of Andreas Kalvos

 He is one of the greatest Greek writers of the 19th century. Driven by the enthusiasm of the beginning of the Greek War of Independence, in 1824 he published the first part of his Greek poems, 

The Patriotic Lyra of Greece (Λύρα), a collection of ten odes. Almost immediately, the publication of the odes translated into French by Stanislas Julien was very well received.

The coin’s outer ring bears the 12 stars of the European Union.
