The design was created by the Maltese artist Gianni Bonnici and it shows a jubilant crowd with the Governor’s Palace, in Valletta, depicted in the background. At the top of the inner ring, in a semicircle, the inscription "MALTA – Majority representation 1887". At the bottom the year "2012"
